After Valentine’s Day I found myself holding on to this sturdy acrylic Ferrero Rocher box. The chocolates were long gone (seriously, those gold wrapped balls of deliciousness disappeared pretty quick) but I thought I could find a way to repurpose the box.In less than an hour (and no money)- I had myself this amazing little tray – perfect for my nightstand, PLUS, if I decide to move the tray to a different room, or want to update it for the season, I can easily swap out the pattern!
Here’s how:
- Peel off the stickers (Goo Gone worked wonders!), thoroughly wash and dry the box.
- Use painters tape to tape a border around the outside edges. I wanted to create a gold edge to make it a little more glamorous but you don’t have to use paint if you don’t want to…it would look just a cute without. I was able to create a simple straight line by following the existing box lip with the painter’s tape. It took 3 coats of gold acrylic paint to get it dark enough for my liking. Maybe next time, I’ll try using some cool washi tape!
- Once paint is dry, carefully remove painters tape. I had a spot where the painter’s tape started pulling off the paint….eeek! I used an exacto knife to cut it away and then smoothed the lifted paint back on with my finger 😉
- Find a piece of paper (or fabric) that you want to use for your design. You can use scrapbooking paper, kids’ artwork, photos, comics – really the possibilities are endless. For me, I found a gift bag that was perfect!
- Lay the box on your paper and play around until you find the placement you like.
- Use a sharp pencil to trace around the box onto your paper. Cut your paper to size.
- Use double sided clear tape to stick the paper to your box.
- Enjoy your new tray!
