We all have those areas in our home that just sort of…happen. You know the spots where we plunk stuff “for now” and think “when I have more time/energy/money I will make this all sorts of fabulous!”
While I have a few of those unfinished projects, the one that has been bothering me lately, is one I see EVER-Y-DAY – the Coffee Corner of the kitchen. No more excuses: Time for a Spring Makeover!
Our family lovingly refers to this spot as Command Central..not just because of the coffee, but because everything ends up here : mail, magazines, phone chargers, school notes, calendars etc. (Overheard daily: “Mom, have you seen my: fill-in-the-blank-with-any-number-of-things-they-ask-me-to-locate?” My reply: “Check Command Central.”)
An update was long overdue for this multi-purpose space and with an April 30th deadline looming, I have my work cut out for me! Yikes- no pressure.
I want it be stylish, functional, and it also has to house three (yes 3) countertop machines! But why 3 machines you ask? I know it seems excessive but here’s the breakdown: The Keurig is also used for making hot water for tea/hot chocolate, the Nespresso because it makes amazing espresso and the regular drip coffee pot because..well…I like brewing a few cups of my fave blend in the a.m. to start my day.
Here’s a few pics to show you the space I’m working on. Fair warning: it’s a little sad and lack lustre.
Now I’m in the midst of updating the space – I cleaned the mess of envelopes, papers and newsprint. Then finished a simple DIY project where I used some leftover paint and a stencil (Marrakech Trellis from Cutting Edge Stencils) to update a plain bulletin board I had buried in the basement. Sorry I didn’t take a before photo – I was too excited to get started and forgot. Ta-daaaaa! Below is the after picture. My plan is to use this new “glam board” in the space to help keep us organized.
Next steps: Off to find some artwork, new mugs and other accessories to make the space magnificent. Check back for progress updates and the big reveal on Monday! Have a great week!
