How to Make a Chocolate Eggnog Cocktail

This ” ‘Twas the night before Christmas Chocolate Eggnog Cocktail” will surely put you in the holiday spirit! There’s something so nostalgic about eggnog around the holidays. Maybe because it’s one of those special things that comes around once a year (I mean, no one is looking for eggnog in the warmer months. It’s only when the holiday music starts to play, that eggnog’s on it’s way!)

While I’m a fan of this rich, creamy drink – I know not everyone feels the same way. So, if you’re serving this chocolate eggnog cocktail as a signature drink at your holiday gathering, you may want to have an alternative cocktail like the Vanilla Pomegranate Elixir or the Hint O’ Mint Martini for those who prefer to skip the nog (and the calories).

Most people are familiar with pairing eggnog with rum (especially spiced rum). And while I can’t argue that classic combination – in this cocktail we’re mixing up something a little lighter and nuttier than the candied sugary flavours of rum. We’re pairing it with amaretto and the hint of vanilla. These flavours work so well with the custardy flavours of eggnog – you’ll be glad you tried it!

One note is that while today’s recipe uses chocolate eggnog – you can definitely substitute and use regular eggnog instead. (I wouldn’t steer you wrong with the chocolate eggnog though – it’s soooo good!)

Directions

  1. Fill shaker with ice and add eggnog, amaretto and vanilla vodka.
  2. Shake the ingredients thoroughly.
  3. Pour into a glass mug (a martini glass would be nice too).
  4. Add a cinnamon stick as garnish and serve immediately.

Joyful Hostess Tip: Lighten up your eggnog by mixing it in equal parts with skim or low fat milk – this still gives you that delicious custard flavour without the extra calories 😉
