Summer’s here! This season, try surprising your guests by setting up an ice cream float bar!
This time of year there’s usually ALL sorts of celebrations – long weekends, family BBQs, weddings, baby showers, birthdays and just about any other reason to gather your crew!

There’s a few perks that come with setting one of these up (besides the prospect of ice cream and sodas combining in a frothy delicious mix!).
- A self- serve float bar is a fun and clever way to offer dessert without having to cook or personally serve anything.
- You’re free to enjoy time hangin’ with your guests…and sipping on your own float! (*happy fist pump!)

The one we set up for my daughter’s graduation was a such a hit! It wasn’t just the kiddos loving it, the adults got in on the float action too. Lots of them reminiscing about the last time they had one as a kid ..and some confessing they never had an ice cream float in their life. (Really? Ne-verrr? )
We also had a few creative grown ups who mixed up a lime soda float that involved coconut rum. Yum! (and hey, if you’re looking for another colourful “grown up drink” for summer, try this Blue Lagoon)

Ice Cream Float Bar Supplies:
- Various soda pop (I chose root beer, cream soda and lime -but you can use whatever kind you like)
- Vanilla Ice cream (you could use chocolate too but with the soda flavours I chose – vanilla worked best)
- Whipped cream
- Toppings (sprinkles, mini- chocolate chips, coconut, cookie crumbs…again possibilities are endless)
- Maraschino cherries
- Ice (to keep everything cold)
- Ice cream scoop
- Straws & cups
- Sign with some flavour combos (see Joyful Hostess tip below for free download)
Another idea : pre-portion individual ice cream scoops in small mason jars, and keep the jars on ice. This way, guests don’t have to scoop -they just pour soda right over the ice cream in the jar and add their toppings. Boom – instant float!
Well there you go – now you’re ready to set up your own Ice Cream Float Bar! And if you decide to create one, please share your photos with me – I get so excited seeing all your creative ideas!
