Spray painting Christmas ornaments is nothing short of magical! It takes something ordinary and dull and transforms it into something gorgeous and unique. Ah- the magic of spray paint where the only limit is your imagination.
This all started because I wanted to add soft pink and burgundy to my white and gold colour scheme for Christmas this year. Since I couldn’t find what I was looking for (and I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of money) I figured, I could DIY what I needed.
It turned out so good so I wanted to share my super easy techniques for creating these pink and gold ornaments! And the bonus is that it took less than 10 mins. (minus drying time). Plus, by using spray paint on the inside of the ornament – you minimize potential paint scratches and flaking when it meets the stiff branches of your Christmas tree.
How to Spray Paint Christmas Ornaments
What you’ll need:
- Clear, plastic ornaments (I picked mine up at the dollar store)
- Spray paint (any colour you want – here I used Rust-Oleum Vintage Blush )
- Gold metallic paint
- Paint brush
- Egg carton
Directions:
- Start with clear, plastic ornaments (I picked mine up at the dollar store)
- Remove the ornament tops and set aside.
- Shake spray paint well and then aim nozzle inside the ornament opening (as you’ll be coating the inside of the ornament with paint.)
- Rotate ornament so that any excess spray paint drips and coats the inside.
- Repeat spraying until the inside of the ornament is coated and you no longer see empty, clear sections.
- Set ornament in egg carton opening side down so that excess paint can drip out.
- Dip brush in gold paint and splatter over the ornaments until you get the desired effect.
- Once gold paint is dry, rotate ornament to repeat splatter pattern on top section
- Once dry, replace ornament tops (that you removed earlier) and hang your new decorations!
Joyful Hostess Tip: You can also spray paint the ornament tops. I spray painted my ornament tops gold to match my colour scheme. This dollar store village house (pictured below) also got a coat of paint to create a custom colour for my mantle. The possibilities are endless!!!
