Ready to dive into making this dreamy, vibrant and refreshing Blue Lagoon cocktail? It’s simpler than it looks and it’s the kind of cheery drink that will leave you feeling anything but blue!
The colour conjures up images of the bright azure waters surrounding lush tropical islands.
Where does this blue colour come from?
The blue lagoon cocktail’s unforgettable colour comes from the use of blue curacao – a citrus liqueur made using the peels of dried Laraha oranges grown on the tropical island of the same name (Curacao). While it would be super cool to think that blue oranges exist in this tropical paradise, in reality the blue colour comes from the use of food colouring.
How to pronounce Curacao
Ok so this has been a point of debate and for years I was saying it “kur-a-ko”. Wrong! Here’s the correct pronunciation “Cure-ah-souw” . So there you go….the more you know 🙂
Let’s get to making it!
Ingredients
- 1 oz vodka
- 1 oz blue curacao
- 4- 5 oz of lemonade
- lemon wheel and marashino cherry for garnish
Directions
- Fill cocktail shaker half full of ice.
- Add vodka, blue curacao and lemonade.
- Shake until shaker is frosty on the outside.
- Strain into glass filled with ice.
- Garnish with lemon and cherry (and umbrella if you’re feelin’ fancy)
Joyful Hostess Tip: To make it a FROZEN BLUE LAGOON COCKTAIL – swap the shaker for a blender. Combine ice, vodka, curacao and lemonade and blend for a frosty treat!
